The Mausoleum of Danila Petrovic-Njegos — the founder of the ruling dynasty of Petrovic-Njegos — is located at the top of the Orlov krs (Orlov mountain), near the Cetinje Monastery.
The idea of constructing the mausoleum was first voiced by princess Elena, daughter of the king Nikola i Petrovic. She also came up with the blueprint for the monument. Construction work was complete in 1896, to the 200-year anniversary of the ruling dynasty of Petrovic-Njegos.
The monument has a dome-like roof supported by four columns. Under the dome is a stone sarcophagus with the remains of Danila Njegos. The sarcophagus is decorated with a relief image of the ruler, as well as symbols of cultural and political power — a cross, a circle and a flower. A memorial plate is also installed.
You can enjoy a spectacular view of Cjetine and the surrounding hills from the mausoleum site.
