King Nikola's museum is part of the National Museum of Montenegro and is located in Cetinje, across the road from the etnographic museum. It was founded in 1926 in the residence of the last king of Montenegro — Nikola I Petrovic-Njegos.
The building was constructed in 1867 and was supposed to be the residence of the family of knyaz Danila I Petrovic. However, they fleed the country and the castle was taken over by Nikola's family.
The museum showcases the political, military and cultural life of Montenegro from the Middle Ages until 1918. You can see the well-preserved interior of the castle and housesold items, as well as enjoy the collection of artwork, weapons, outfits, decorations, orders and coins. There's also a library with over 10000 items, including the Octoechos — the first book printed in Cetinje in late-XV century. It also keeps an archive of valuable documents spanning from early-XIII to early-XX century.
The museum is open throughout the year, admission fee is 5 Euro.
